What should I take to my trip?
In addition to your personal belongings we recommend you to take the
following items:
• Bathing suit. There will be places where you can swim.
• A personal towel. Even though in the hotels you won’t
need it in other places it will be useful.
• Cap or hat to protect you from direct sunlight, as well as sunblock.
• Comfortable shoes or tennis shoes.
• Not only comfortable clothing for the tours but also night clothing.
In San Cristóbal you will be able to have fun in bars, discos
and restaurants.
• Mosquito repellent to be used mainly in the archeological sites.
• Sweater or jacket. San Cristóbal de las Casas has a fresh
weather at night and a cold weather in winter.
• A photographic or video camera (in some places you will have
to pay an additional cost to be able to use a video camera, but it won’t
be more than $25 pesos. In San Juan Chamula and Zinacantán it
is prohibited to use it due to rules of the local people).
In what other things will I spend money additional to the tour?
Meals in Chiapas are not expensive so with $100 to $200 pesos per day
will be enough for breakfast, supper and dinner depending on the place.
In Chiapas you will find all types of food, Mexican, Typical, Italian,
Spanish, etc.
Personal shopping you will want to do of things like crafts, clothing,
postal cards, etc.
How is the weather in Chiapas?
Due to different altitudes of the places you will visit the weather
will vary.
• In Tuxtla Gutiérrez the weather is warm and humid, with
temperatures that range from 25° to 32° Celsius most of the
year. Cotton clothing will be enough to be comfortable.
• San Cristóbal de las Casas is 2,200 meters above sea
level so the climate is fresh and the temperatures go from 10° to
20° Celsius, except in winter where temperatures can go down between
0° and 10°. You will need a sweater or a jacket. The rainy season
is from July to October so it is a good idea to bring a waterproof jacket
or coat.
• Palenque, Agua Azul, Misol-Ha, Yaxchilan, the Lacandona jungle
and Tapachula have tropical weather, very warm and humid and temperatures
range between 25° and 35° Celsius all year round. We recommend
you to bring very comfortable cotton clothing. Bermudas or shorts are
only recommended if you use mosquito repellent. Otherwise cotton pants
will work fine.
What banks will I find? Can I use credit card?
Some banks available are:
In Tuxtla Gutiérrez and Tapachula: Banorte, Bancomer, HSBC, Banamex
In San Cristóbal: Bancomer, HSBC, Banamex, Serfín, Inverlat
Palenque: Bancomer, Banamex
The vast majority of established commerce and service lenders (hotels,
restaurants, drugstores, etc.) accept any kind of credit card issued
in Mexico or international VISA and MASTERCARD credit cards.
Informal stores and marketplaces will only accept cash.
Should I take my mobile phone?

San Cristóbal, Palenque and Tapachula.
There is no service in highways, archeological sites or Lacandona jungle.
Will I be able to check my e-mails?
